No Surprises And Many Favorites
It’s officially summer time with summer comes And increase in ice cream sales. I don’t know about you but here in the Sun Valley California area temperatures are rising and in our nearby cities, Palm Springs for example, the temperatures are well into three digits. All this means that people everywhere in warmer climates are more attracted to ice cream. And while we’re talking about ice cream since to ask what the top flavors are in recent years. Has anything changed dramatically? Has one flavor eclipsed another? Let’s take a look.
The International dairy foods association (IDFA)–who else?–compiles a list of favorite ice creams in terms of sales for any particular year. It will come as no surprise that in their top 10 list there are a lot of familiar flavors. It really is unsurprising that vanilla tops the list. Coming in a close second is, of course, chocolate. I almost didn’t have to right that last sentence because everybody pretty much knows that instinctively.
However, there are some relatively new flavors that crept into the top 10 and this is attribute to the popularity of each one. Here’s a recent list from the IFDA:
- Vanilla
- Chocolate
- Cookies N’ Cream
- Mint Chocolate Chip
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
- Buttered Pecan
- Cookie Dough
- Strawberry
- Moose Tracks
- Neapolitan
The only real surprises, if you can call them that are perhaps cookies and cream in the number three spot and Moose tracks in the number nine spot. I don’t blame people for liking any of these flavors but I just wanted to call attention to the fact that relatively new concoctions like moose tracks it Is so beloved people that it’s made the overall top 10 list.
Regardless, whatever your favorite flavor is, go out and enjoy the scoop court to trying to beat the heat.
